Qualifications for the NCLB / No Child Left Behind Program
What does ‘Highly Qualified’ mean?
The federal definition of a “High Qualified” teacher is one who is; fully certified and/or licensed by the state; holds at least a bachelor’s degree from a four-year institution; and demonstrates competence in each core academic subject area in which the teacher teaches.
Does the “Highly Qualified” criteria apply to all teachers?
No. The “Highly Qualified’ criterion applies to all teachers - in Title 1 public schools and those who teach in core academic subject areas. The federal regulations do not apply to non-core academic subject area teachers such as those in most vocational (workforce development / career – technical education) programs or physical education.
Tutorial Program Description: Our tutorial program provides tutorial and academic services designed to help students meet local and state academic standards in subjects of English/ Language arts and/ or Math. Our goal is to help our students reach their full academic proficiency and achieve their unlimited potential.
What are the core academic subject areas?
Those areas include: English, reading, language arts, mathematics, science, civics and government, social studies, economics, history, geography, and kindergarten through Grade 6 (K-6)
Minimum Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or pending student. Graduate Level student OR for 'Highly Qualified ' Qualifications = Teacher certification or provisional status and 3-5 years teaching experience if possible. Ability to instruct multiple sessions per week (three or more weekly sessions are available)
Tutors will receive at least 4 hours of paid training on state and program requirements.
Salary: Based on position, experience and in the NCLB / No Child Left Behind tutoring program – teaching or tutoring experience.
Additional Qualifications [bonus pay]
Multi-lingual instructors = Arabic, Spanish, French, Hmong, Bengali and Sign Interpretation.
Tutoring Hours – Monthly 16 – 22 hours per month
